At SEET, we believe that equipping our mentors with the right tools is key to providing truly supportive, trauma-informed guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why, on <strong>8 July 2025<\/strong>, SEET hosted a dedicated workshop on <strong>Trauma and PTSD<\/strong>. This workshop was led by professional counsellor and trainer <strong>Krish Phua,<\/strong> and while it was held at <strong>ETH Zurich,<\/strong> the session was also available online. This workshop focused on <strong>practical strategies for supporting mentees<\/strong> while also fostering <strong>prevention and resilience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Joined the Workshop?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was primarily designed for <strong>SEET Mentors and Stakeholders<\/strong>, including board members, volunteers, and members. But what truly stood out was the presence of <strong>SEET Mentees (refugees)<\/strong> and supporters from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.perspektiven-studium.ch\/en\/\">Perspektiven Studium<\/a><\/strong> network. This participation reflects their commitment to strengthening their independence and resilience as they begin their academic journeys in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inside the Workshop<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, participants explored:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trauma-Focused Approaches<\/strong>: Understanding what trauma and PTSD are, and how they manifest.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Practical Tools &amp; Techniques<\/strong>: Strategies for supporting individuals with migratory backgrounds.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Self-Care for Mentors<\/strong>: Building resilience to prevent burnout and secondary trauma.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The ultimate goal? To empower and guide mentors to better support their SEET mentees, helping them feel more secure throughout their educational journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Word from Krish Phua<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cI am honoured and grateful to have conducted this Trauma and PTSD workshop for SEET. I was deeply encouraged to see not only mentors and stakeholders, but also mentees, fully engaged in the session. This shows a profound dedication to self-understanding and resilience\u2014qualities that are essential when continuing or restarting education in a new country.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>My hope is that this workshop sparks a positive shift in attitudes and approaches when supporting people affected by trauma.
